FILM DISCUSSION GROUP - meets for the screening and discussion of an unusually beautiful Armenian film - Sergei Paradjanov's ‘The Color Of Pomegranates’ (1969) [80 mins]. Also known as "Red Pomegranate" and/or "Sayat Nova," it was censored by Soviet officials and banned until 1972. Sergei Paradjanov's lavish film follows 18th-century Armenian poet Sayat Nova's incredible life, from carpet weaver's apprentice to archbishop to martyr. Film Scholar Rashmi Doraiswamy will introduce the film and co-ordinate the discussion. |
