FILM DISCUSSION GROUP - meets for the screening and discussion of Ritwik Kumar Ghatak’s ‘Meghe Dhaka Tara(1960, 122 mins). Arguably Ghatak’s finest work, Meghe Dhaka Tara is a dark melodrama set in late fifties Calcutta about a refugee family. With its sparse script, audacious expressionist sountrack and a startling cinematic elegance, Meghe Dhaka Tara is undoubtedly a modern masterpiece – infinitely compassionate and humane. Film Scholar Madan Gopal Singh will introduce the film and co - ordinate the discussion.
