Set in 12th Century Muslim Spain, the film depicts a struggle for free speech in the context of the life of the philosopher Averroes. A deeply felt, exuberant historical fresco with profound implications for today. Film scholar Ira Bhaskar will introduce the film and facilitate the discussion.

The film seeks to explain why underground fires – literally and metaphorically – are raging for so many years in and around the township of Jharia in Dhanbad district in Jharkhand and analyses the region's 'resource curse'. The filmmaker will be present at the screening for discussion.
