The emphasis is on the semiotic translation of imagery, graphic quality and old school emotional appeal. Francis†29th - 31st July 2008 Open Palm Court Gallery Chhuttan Lal Meena presented an exhibition of paintings and drawings titled “a la ST. Francis†from 29-31 July 2008 at the Open Palm Court Gallery. Namoh Narayan Meena, Minister of State for Environment & Forest and Keshav Malik, Art critic inaugurated the exhibition. These paintings by C.L.Meena were intended to enable us to learn about some animal first hand. He has admirably done justice to the buffaloes; the camels, the goat and some other domesticated ones by his close affinity with them. Unlike a zoologist the painter is not merely studying the behavior of goat, camel, etc.but feeling and seeing how their needs are catered to. This is not merely studying anatomy. Rather, affection is vital in turning out authentic art works. Well, Meena has the necessary power of close observation, as well as the joy he draws out of animal behavior. E.g.- animal mother’s affection for her young one. In his works the artist has followed the logic of Indian aesthetic (Rasa, Bhava, Symmetry and ornamentation) as well as the earlier image making techniques. His works are thus a convincing continuation of the foregoing vigorous art forms, like of Ajanta. It seems that after an intuitive as well as intellective grasping of the high points of cave art styles as of rock art patterns, he has sought to transform them into contemporary modern idiom Open Palm Court(01 To 07 July 2008)A group exhibition of painting and scupture by 3 young artist Open Palm Court Gallery 1st - 7th July 2008 Three young artists – Biplab Sarkar, Chaitali Chanda and Probir Mondal organized a group show from 1-7 July 2008 at the Open Palm Court Gallery.
