time he and his comrades fought one of the most celebrated

and used the court as a vehicle for the propagation of their
revolutionary message. All this is well-known. What is not so
well-known is that Bhagat Singh wrote four books in jail.
Although they were smuggled out, they were destroyed and are
lost forever. What survived was a notebook that the young

unstable and armed with nuclear weapons, has become terrorism
central. The Taliban is resurging and re-conquering land, and al
Qaeda is stronger than ever. And at the heart of these
calamities is the United States' refusal to accept its
responsibility for statecraft and nation building and its utter
failure to understand the region. The author blistering critique

World disasters report
2008: focus on HIV and AIDS. International Federation of Red
Cross and Red Crescent Societies
|
|
HIV and AIDS confront the world
with many challenges. Humanitarian organizations have worked
hard to meet them and to make up for a lack of action in the
first years of the epidemic. But far, far more needs to be done,
in partnership with governments but also, above all, with
communities whose wisdom and resilience offer so much to the HIV
response. This report focuses on the HIV and AIDS crisis and
argues that it should be given much higher priority in disaster
management programs, whether in preparedness and risk reduction,
or during emergency response and recovery. |

World e-Parliament report
2008. United Nations. Department of Economic and Social Affairs
and the Inter-Parliamentary Union through the Global Centre for
ICT in Parliament. |
|
|
|
Information and communication
technologies (ICT) have become essential tools in supporting the
work of legislative bodies throughout the world. As they have
grown in sophistication, ICT have acquired
the necessary flexibility to
assist parliaments in their most important responsibilities:
making laws, overseeing the executive and communicating with
citizens. The Report offers to parliaments an authoritative
baseline so that they can conduct their own assessment on the
use of ICT in their daily work, draw lessons from the different
practices presented therein, and see how they can improve their
processes. It also provides civil society, business and the
academia with a useful instrument to evaluate the complexities
of using ICT in such a multifaceted institution as parliament. |
