Visual Arts Gallery of the India Habitat Centre, and Art
India propose the Promising Artist Award for the third year. |
|

|
|
| |
The aim of the award is to encourage and support a
committed India artist. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
A grant of Rs. 3,00,000/-will be given to the winner.
|
|
| |
|
|
| |
The
award is open to suitably qualified Indian nationals working as painters,
sculptors, installation artists and graphic artists. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
Terms
and conditions: |
|
| |
|
|
| |
India Habitat
Centre and Art India will award Rs. 3,00,000/- to the winner. A panel
of eminent judges from the art world will give away the award. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
(1) The Criteria |
|
| |
|
|
| |
| (i) |
Any India-based artists
working in the field of visual arts can apply by filling up a form
mentioned below. |
| |
|
| (ii) |
She/ He
could nominate herself/ himself for the award or be nominated by an
institution that she/ he is affiliated to. |
| |
|
| (iii) |
Applicants must be under
40 years of age on the closing date for entries. They must: |
| |
|
| |
| (a) |
Have completed or be
in the process of completing a Master's degree in an artistic
discipline or; |
| (b) |
Have completed a
Bachelor's degree in an artistic discipline or; |
| (c) |
In exceptional
circumstances, be able to demonstrate commitment to an artistic
career. |

|
|
| |
|
|
| |
Assuming these
criteria are met, applicants need only demonstrate one thing to win the
award - outstanding artistic talent. |
|

|
|
| |
(2) The Award |
|
| |
|
|
| |
The award will include a certificate of merit as well as
a cash prize of Rs. 3,00,000/-. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
(3) The Commitment |
|
| |
|
|
| |
The
winner will have to create a minimum of four works, which she/he will be
free to sell. However, India Habitat Centre and Art India would have
the first right of refusal. The winning artist will be expected to mount an
exhibition at the Visual Arts Gallery, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.

(4) The Selection Process |
|
| |
|
|
| |
Applications must
be received by the specified closing date (15th August). |
|
| |
|
|
| |
The contestant will have to submit 10 images of his work
at the beginning of the competition. If she/ he is chosen for the selection
round, she/ he will have to bring the original work to the Visual Arts
Gallery, IHC, at her/ his own cost. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
The artist's work must be supplied (fully labelled) with
the entry form. Images should be sent on a compact disc so that they
can be used for PowerPoint presentations. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
All applications have to come on a CD accompanied by a
one page 500 words essay by the artist articulating her/his thoughts and
concepts, and clearly stating how they meet the criteria set out in Section
1 above. Seven copies of the CD have to be made and sent. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
The material accompanying the application will not be
returned. |

|
| |
The judging
panel’s decision will be final. The panel will include: |

| |

An accomplished art critic,
-
An eminent contemporary Indian artist,
-
A prominent collector of contemporary Indian art,
