The India Habitat Centre Fellowship for Photography - 2004 The jury for the India Habitat Centre fellowship for Photography was held on April 22, 2004. The Fellowship is a grant aimed at supporting emerging photographers already working on a project. The three-member jury included Kiran Khalap, Devika Daulat Singh and Swapan Parekh. It was a tough decision to make and the meeting which was meant to last a few hours, was extended and finished only late in the evening We received almost thirty entries. Each entrant was asked to submit a statement along with an accompanying portfolio of photographs. The main guidelines for the judges were: 1) It is not a portfolio competition, and, 2) the award must be given to a photographer who demonstrates his/her ability to work on a long-term project by conceiving and writing a concise, focused and meaningful story proposal. Last year the fellowship was awarded to Anay Mann, a photographer. A total amount of Rs 1.20 lakhs is granted to the selected candidate. This year the award has been presented to Sumeet Inder Singh, a young photographer (only 23!) working at India Today. (At the end of the fellowship, the Visual Arts Gallery, India Habitat Centre will showcase the work of Sumeet Inder Singh. Dates of the exhibition will be announced closer to the time.) |
