LOTUS POND - THE WORLD OF RAMACHANDRAN (2004)
Director: K.Bikram Singh and Sudesh Unniraman
Duration: 52 Minutess

A creative portrait of A. Ramachandran about his inspiration, his views on art, methods of work and his evolution. Conceived in first person narrative. Recently this film was shown at the Montreal Art Film Festival.

Part –2 (Film by Artists)

1.

THE END (1973)
Director: Gopi Gajwani
Duration: 10 Minutes

The film is based on the basic human desire to destroy or to do things to achieve that would secure and satisfy the seat of power, while peace remains a helpless onlooker, isolated in its action. The symbolic images used in the film are taken from still photographs from magazines and moving shots, blended together and woven around this theme.

TIME (1974)

Duration: 15 Minutes

‘Time’ in this film has been used in a very abstract form and scale, varying from one situation to another. Never the same – it may be equal to a fraction of a second for some,and  equal to a whole lifetime for others.

THE BODY (1985)

The body as a symbol of torture. The film highlights how the suffering of a man needs a soothing and helping hand of a companion.

BIOGRAPHY OF A LIFE (1985)

Duration: 6 Minutes

With ‘man’s struggle for a better life’ as its basic theme, the film highlights how his attempts to lead a better life land in him in trouble, some real or unreal.

SHABASH BETE! (WELL DONE MY BOY!) –1991

Animals and human beings are trained by the superiors towards a certain kind of regimentation. Throughout their life they go round and round mechanically.

I AM MAN – A MOMENT ‘S MADNESS (2004)
Direction, choreography, makeup, performance by Sanjay Bhattacharya.
Duration: 20 Minutes

A day in the life of a painter, living within four walls, with music as his only companion, and a flair for nonsense providing the initial spark. This film had no retakes, nor much thought was put into it. This spontaneous work covers music genres ranging from pop to folk, including a self-composed track.

VIDEO FILMS BY PRATUL DASH (2004-2005)

a. EK RABIBAR (ON A SUNDAY)

Duration: 2 Minutes and 30 Seconds

This film is a synthesis of two different occurrences at Burla, Orissa, the native town of Pratul Dash , depicting a typical Sunday morning.

Dandapani Gauda, the village priest, blows the couch shell every morning, drowning the atmosphere in the sound known to the Indians since eternity as auspicious, in sharp contrast to this sight is a scene from a slaughterhouse in the town, showing all the blood and gore.

b. CONFUSION OR FEAR?

This video is all about satirical attempt to show the political hypocrisy in India, the world’s biggest democratic system. It shows a metaphorical use of relationship between man and pet in connection to political and social disorder in our daily lives.

This video is all about beauty of silence, which is here, there and everywhere.

f. AN ELECTRONIC GATE

Duration: 2 Minutes and 30 Seconds

This video shows the gate of the Pistoletto foundation situated in a two century’s old industrial building, which once housed a textile factory. The factory was closed down along with several others during economic recession in Italy. The building lay abandoned for decades before it was occupied by the foundation.

The steel gate is original, having a historical value. It is now electronically operated with the help of digital codes.

This gate is a witness of artist being an outsider seeking entry into the interior of the socio-cultural and aesthetic fabric of Italy.

A DAY WITH SOHAIL AND MARIYAN (2004)

“My concerns rotate around many aspects of human conditions. This video has been made as a fictional documentary but not exactly following the documentary mode. While portraying a late night tour with Sohail and Mariyan, my video tries to establish a relationship with a world that we are not normally familiar with. This tour also signifies a search of the back door of an established social order representing the world of consumption,” Says Gigi Scaria.

COUPLES: PHOTO ALBUM, VANCOUVRE (1994)
Director: Vivan Sundaram
Duration: 20 Minutes

A set of formally posed photographs of couples at their real or imaginary wedding; ‘Couples’ from multi-cultural backgrounds and their relationships are also multi-gendered. Once the couples are introduced with frontal shots, they proceed to act out their roles. The scenario unfolds, shifting focus from one ‘performance’ to the next with jazzy music that brings alive the individuality of the couples.
