Kashmir Views

-
‘Kashmir Views’ an exhibition organized by ‘India Picture’ showcases the photographs by Ram Chand Mehta (1934-1959). Ram Chand Mehta carried his own fine sensibility and discipline of the portrait photographer out of the confines of the studio into the exquisite expanse of Kashmir. On view are fresh black-and-white prints made from the original negatives in different formats. Displayed alongside the prints will be his various cameras with their now-antique accessories, the tools and chemicals of his darkroom, as well as some of the surviving hand-coloured archival prints made and supervised by him over half a century ago.

India as Expressed

-

‘India as Expressed’ is an exhibition of works by Bryan Duncan, a young Jamaican artist visiting India with help from the Commonwealth Arts Foundation. Through his works, the artist seeks to comment, if not document, his life experiences in India. “It is my belief that through greater understanding of life experiences, man is able to better develop as socially intellectual being. The thought is that in developing countries (Jamaica and India) there are similarities in the challenges the people face, and I aim to focus on some of them as a conceptual task. It is by awakening the conscience that we are able to encourage positive action,” says Duncan about the inspiration behind his works.
