Members of the India Habitat Centre were in for a big treat! Well know artist Kavita Jaiswal conducted a three-month-long workshop on oil paintings at the amphitheatre of the Visual Arts Gallery starting December 2, 2005. The classes that were conducted every Friday and Saturday for two hours each, evoked a very encouraging response from the members, “All my life I have wanted to learn to paint, and I have now finally got a chance to do so,” said one of the senior participants of the workshop. On her end Kavita just loved conducting the workshop, first 10 classes of which were conducted free of cost. “Teaching is my passion,” said Jaiswal, who has 25 years of experience behind her as painter. “Teaching energises me. And I can then channelize this energy into my work,” she added. Jaiswal has held many a solo shows of her oil paintings. The last one was held at Art Heritage gallery in February 2005. Seeing the enthusiasm of the teacher and the taught, it would not come as a surprise if many a workshop participants realized that their true calling was actually art. The oil painting classes have now been resumed from July to August 2006 with a month-long break in June. They are being conducted on Wednesdays 11am to 1pm & Fridays 11am to 1pm at the Palm Court Conference Room, India Habitat Centre.
